Personal Profile

Sam is a very experienced Head of PMO/Programme Manager with over 30 years’ experience in commercial and public sector, delivering projects from inception and also recovering failing projects. He has also set up PMOs, improved business processes using 6/lean sigma and managed projects using Prince2, Agile and Waterfall methodologies. He has mapped the “As-is” and designed the “To-be” processes, developed staff training plans, support teams and ensured “floor walkers” are in place to support staff during the change periods.
He is also proficient in using MS Office suite and MS Project, has implemented strong project controls and assurance including PIDs, Project Plan development, Status Reporting, Risks and Issues logs (RAID) benefits realisation and developing robust communication plans that ensure appropriate stakeholders have a full understanding that project objectives are being met, budget spend is on track and adherence to delivery timelines.
Sam served with the Royal Air Force for 25 years before joining Logica to establish a European Operations office in Germany to support mobile network operators in Germany, Switzerland, Poland, South Africa and the Middle East with value-added service platforms for text and video messaging. During his RAF Service, Sam led a team of engineers working on Bae System’s electronic counter measures systems for the RAF and the Royal Saudi Air Force. Sam has also worked in Saudi Arabia developing a PMO and project delivery methodologies for the King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy and has been working with the Advanced Learning Company, Riyadh, developing professional training courses including SAP and Oracle to be delivered in their college.
He has also led a Portfolio, programme and project office (P3O) to provide control of project teams in Saudi Arabia, Denmark, Sweden, Thailand, Kuwait, Senegal, Philippines and UAE to implement and upgrade various SAP systems at Clients’ sites. In his most recent role, he has had to restructure the PMO to improve the planning and reporting from project teams in Asia, Americas and EMEA, to enable business units to drive requirements from technology teams and improved marketing and sales data by implementation of customer behavioural input.

Sam has excellent stakeholder engagement, having worked closely at CEO, CTO and Board level and ensured project Reports are written in a format that is easily understood by business leadership. He also has extensive experience in staff management and leadership of highly skilled technicians and professionals, both direct reports, 3rd party suppliers and in a matrix organisation. He is highly experienced in working in multi-cultural environments having worked in Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia and America.
