An Interim Head of Housing Development & Regeneration – Housing & Planning is required to join a highly visible leadership position, reporting to the Director of Housing, where your drive and determination will have a huge impact on staff, customers and stakeholders.
You will need to be experienced in affordable housing development and regeneration delivered through a range of approaches, preferably in both the public and private sectors. Extensive contract and procurement experience is also required, along with senior leadership experience.
A new political administration is promoting emerging strategic themes of tackling the climate crisis, providing high-quality housing and increasing our commercial income and investments. Harnessing the opportunities for sustainable growth will be critical for future success, while maximising commercial income and delivering quality homes for local communities.
You will support a team that has undertaking a modest new build programme with over 100 new homes completed, and a further 50 properties added to the stock through acquisitions. There are further schemes on site and a varied range of exciting schemes and land acquisitions in the pipeline. The new flagship scheme is a 200 home regeneration of a non-traditional construction estate in North Taunton, which will be a £45M investment, and for which the team will be procuring contractors for a first phase to start in the New Year.
There are also extensive regeneration plans in the local town centre, with one mixed use scheme including 40 Market homes on site at present. In addition, you may support further regeneration and potential in Private Rented sector investments.
Following the removal of the debt cap for the local Housing Revenue Account the Housing team have been undertaking a review of the 30 year Business Plan which gives a great opportunity to invest in many more new homes. To prepare for this some changes to the structure of the team wil be undertaken. Pending these changes you this role will oversee the current team and delivery, progress the schemes already in the pipeline at pace, and lay foundations for a more diverse delivery approach. This may include establishing a Development Company so experience in this regard would be an advantage.
