How To Work From Home Securely Today And The Future
Whether working from home is your new normal due to Covid-19, or you’ve been doing it for ages, it’s important to ensure that you are working from home securely.
You may or may not be aware, that there has already been an increase of cyber-attacks, due to coronavirus. Which is why we have put together some tips on how to make sure you can work from home and keep your work secure.
It’s important to make sure that your Wi-Fi is encrypted. It’s likely, that your home Wi-Fi has an encrypted Wi-Fi connection, especially if you are using a router by one of the major Wi-Fi providers (BT, Virgin, Sky, etc).
If you don’t have a work laptop and use a personal computer to complete your work, make sure that you have antivirus software installed. As an extra level of security, make sure that you don’t download or store confidential information directly to your computer, and keep it within the cloud environment, that your company has provided.
Do you use a VPN? If you don’t, make sure you get access to one, it will benefit you both for work and for personal computer use. As a VPN allows you to create a secure connection between your computer and a “safe” point on the internet. This reduces the risks of your data being viewed by cybercriminals.
As well as the technical security considerations you should also consider privacy at home. It may seem like an obvious tip and something people will automatically know, but just make sure that family members or housemates know not to share any information, they overhear, whilst you are working from home.
